League proposal

This is the proposal for a league for games based on ISC.

The league format that won't require too much scheduling is something modeled after European football tournaments like UEFA Cup and Champions League.

We can run a league with as few as 4 people, but it would be more fun, and rather easy to track, with up to 25-50 people for now.

The standings would be in Group format. The amount of Groups would be based on the amount of participants. Here is a standings table I think would work best:

Group 1 W L D Pts PF PA

Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000

Group 2 W L D Pts PF PA
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000
Player 1 00 00 00 00 000 000

Each player plays each other player in Round Robin format. Obviously it wouldn't be fair to mix in 400s-ranked players with the 900s-plus, so players would have to be grouped according to how they sign up.

I've noticed that some Scrabble tournaments allow you to play up if you want. That would be fine, but playing down is silly. We're not really playing for anything more than bragging rights.

Number of games, Playoffs

Each player will play each other player a total of xx times (at first). If there are multiple groups of players in the same ranking level, then each player plays each player in other groups half the times they play those in their group.

EX: Group 1 Player plays Group 1 Player 20 times. Group 1 Player plays Group 2 Players 10 times.

As in many sports leagues, you get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie.

(Since we'd be tracking the scores, I thought it'd be fun to track random stats like Points Per Game and Points Per Turn, as well as Best Bingo, and Total Bingos.)

At the end of the scheduled games, we could just declare a champion, or we could arrange a playoffs if we can get more than one group going.

Obviously there would be implied rules regarding fairness, and this will all be more organized once we get emails and such sorted out. I hope people will participate. It should be fun.

All league news and results and such would be posted on this site, as well as updates to standings and such.
